What is Ad Exchange?
An ad exchange is a digital marketplace where advertisers and publishers buy and sell ad space in real-time, typically through a process known as real-time bidding (RTB). When a user visits a website, the ad exchange auctions off the ad space to the highest bidder, and the winning ad is instantly shown. This all happens within milliseconds as the page loads.
Advertisers utilize demand-side platforms (DSPs) to bid on impressions based on factors such as user behavior, location, or device type. Publishers, in turn, maximize revenue by allowing multiple advertisers to compete for their ad space.
